What do I do with a cheque in dollars?
Bend over and grease myself up for Mr nordea, yes yes, i know, but what is the exact procedure for me getting screwed here?
Re: What do I do with a cheque in dollars?
You walk into Nordea and say you want to deposit the cheque into your account. If its a big amount and they suspect money laundry or such, they will tell you

If the cheque is fake and it cannot be collected they will charge you quite a lot.

If it bounces, the bank won't use vaseline... sometimes people buying stuff online get sent some big check and asked for the balance. Then the check bounces so they're out of money, fees and the balance and usually the item they get is a brick. Kidergarten level scam.

I'm pretty sure this one isn't a fake, as it's a pretty massive company and the cheque has some security features I've never seen before (and I regularly used cheques up until two years ago).
Unfortunately, Nordea are not just denying lubricant, they seem to have acquired a sandpaper-coated condom and are not afraid to use it. As it's a 'private' cheque, it will cost me 130€ to deposit it. That's about one third of the value of the cheque. Nordea recommended I got a bank transfer, but that's what i originally requested and they are already 5 months late. I don't want to wait until the dollar achieves parity with the Turkish lira before I get something for this.
Please, somebody help......

Well, thats what you get for accepting antiquated means of payment... you know in Nordea they need to open the cryogenic vault and revive someone from the 1900's to deal with it. Someone here with a bank account in the US might be able to use it, but can you cross-transfer checques like that?

That's what you get for freelancing for non-regular employers who will probably have no use for you in the future....

And about the transfering, I'm not sure. I really, really hope so...

Be prepared to pay a hefty fee.
I once wanted to cash in a check from a Scotland bank and that would've cost me more than the value of the check.

Ask Oompah18.... she had a thread going a few months back about cashing a cheque in GBP. Not sure what happened in the end.

I don't know if it changed that much since 2004 but I cashed a few cheques back then from the UK, France and the US. The standard fee then was €15 per cheque. But if it was a big amount it was better than nothing.

Re: What do I do with a cheque in dollars?
15 euro would be wonderful. I'd love it to be 15 euro. Unfortunately, my cheque has the name of the company on it, and as such is much more complicated for Finnish banks to handle. therefore it will be 130 euro. The fact that the company is 'walt Disney' probably doesn't help matters.
Re: What do I do with a cheque in dollars?
I found the same thing, 130€ is bl00dy insane!!
I got 2 cheques from insurance company, Deutsche Bank was the issuing bank...nope 130e...crazy.
In the end I mailed them to my bank in the UK.....
Crazy.

Re: What do I do with a cheque in dollars?
What is totally crazy (IMO) is the fact that there are still banks out there that issue checks
Somebody ought to tell these banks about computers... and IBAN numbers... and the Amazon rainforests...

What were the charges like from the UK bank, cressers? That's an option, but I assumed they'd also be merciless....
