Post by WantKnow » Wed May 14, 2008 8:55 am

Hello,

I have applied severl job positions. I got one offer, but I hope to wait the outcome from other companies. How should I answer the company who gave the offer?

Thanks!

Why are you asking us :ohno:
You choose the jobs to apply for, you know your qualifications and your chances for each job.
You probably have a favourite in mind.
If you want this job, take it, if not, wait for the others.

pm: telling the company that you want to wait a little for other offers is not a good tactic.

Or you can go in, sign the contract and quit within the trial period. People do it, but it is a bit opportunistic.

He ll still be shafted if he quits within the trial period ..3 months automatic quarantine if no other job comes by..The trial period is for employers to test the employee..
Of course, he can quite without notice during that period..
If he wants unemployment benefits after quitting ( without getting another job) the time is 1 week..5 days!!

Yabbut he wouldn't be quitting the first job unless the second one came - thats the scenario here.

Parempi pyy pivossa kuin kymmenen oksalla.

Yes, it is ten. "Better one hazelhen (looked from a dictionary) in your hand (pivo is an old word for the inside of hand) than ten on the branch.

Time to go to bed. So, pivo is an old word for kämmen --> palm.

"A bird in the hand is worth kymmenen oksalla" is the first book in a series of 3 by Paul Westlake, comparing English and Finnish idioms, the cartoons are terrific.
