Got A Job, Will They Let Me In?
Hey all! I studied in Finland as a visiting student (not as an Erasmus loser), and loved the country so much! I made a lot of good friends that went to the same church I did, and I fell in love with the culture and peaceful life there. One of my friend's dad is hooking me up with a job working for timbering. For those who have experience getting work permits, is this job not going to allow me into the country? I keep reading that getting a work permit requires that I be a "specialist". I am a US citizen, so I need to get a permit.. what is the best thing to do to get a work permit? I'm just nervous of getting rejected.

Specialist = specialist, you can be specialist toilet cleaner or specialist neuro surgeon.
Main thing is that there isnt one in finland (or in eu) who can do your job.
If employer says youre one they want then you probably get a visa.
And erasmus losers? and being in church every sunday is just minus for you, you can go but dont tell Thats of course if you do want to meet "normal" finnish and not just few percent of overreligious.
Finland is christian country but being religious is not rated high in here, basicly to "normal" citizen church is cristening, marriage and death.
Most of finnish are "chrisians because of habit"
But if you believe too openly youre "hihhuli" and we know what to do those

Indeed, it must look reasonable that the job cannot be filled by the local (or EU) market.Main thing is that there isnt one in finland (or in eu) who can do your job.

Being a "specialist" makes that easy to argue. But if it is a job in a field where there is much unemployment, it's going to be harder. Let your new boss sort it out, he has to do the convincing.

Ha ha! You all got upset over the Erasmus joke! The large majority of them were there for the sex and beer. As for religion, you're right about Finns.. only about 4% actually go to church (well, Lutheran members at least..), and about 1% actually know what the Lutheran church believes.. as for the rest of the religious community, they're the ones you gotta worry about. Finland is NOTHING compared to the US with religious nuts. Example: Saturday at the airport I was approached by Jehovah's Witnesses, they gave me 3 pamphlets. 3 hours later I went to the post office, only to be bombarded by 2 Baptists who apparently had all the answers. At least Finns don't talk to you in public unless they are drunk or crazy. God bless Finland. (or may science protect it.. its your call..)

ha ha i love the picture i did meet all varieties of finns.. not just my religious friends.. i just happened to spend more time with the ones from my church. finns are really hard to approach and make friends with. so naturally, being in the same church broke the ice for the avanto parties!

thanks, i appreciate the feedback.. in reality, it really does come down to what the employer is because anybody can "specialize" in anything.. it will be interesting to see what happens..
