Gun Stores in Finland

Post by crazyarms » Thu Sep 03, 2009 12:06 am

Are there any gun stores (rifles) in Finland that I could contact? I am having difficulty finding any on the internet.

Thank-you;
Scott

I think you'd need to be googling combinations of:
  • urheilukauppa (sports store)
  • ulkoilukauppa ("outdoorsmanship" store)
  • kivääri (rifle)
  • pistooli (pistol)
I got some results that way. I haven't paid a lot of attention but I've only ever noticed guns in sports/outdoors stores. Can't say I've seen entire stores dedicated to firearms (sing. tuliase, pl. tuliaseet).
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

You can probably find what you want here. Please understand that you MUST obtain all the necessary permits, licenses etc. from the police BEFORE purchasing any firearm.

Thank-you a lot. I really need to talk to the police department then huh? I wonder if my Canadian permits are applicable? I want to buy the rifles from Finnish stores and have them shipped to Canada.

Why on earth you want to buy stuff from Finnish store and have it shipped to Canada?

I have no idea how such export activity would affect the permit process, but here before you get purchase permit (notice, permit to PURCHASE gun, permit to own it comes later) you need to have valid reason.

Valid reasons are basically two (ignoring collections which then has whole different tale) hunting (which requires passed hunting exam and little things like that) or membership in shooting club. Also, guns must fit the purpose.

You are going to have lots of trouble convincing police that it is essential for one to purchase Barrett .50 for rabbit hunting.

Again, at this point we get to point where we ask how you being in Canada changes the rules but I would guess that it does not get any easier.

So, why you cannot buy your guns from Canada? You could ask your local store to order you the weapons you want to buy. Would be less problematic.

There are literally dozens of Finnish gunshops on the net.

Here is a massive list of links:

Click on "Linkkit aiheittain" and the shops come up first. There are well over a hundred...

If you are looking for http://www.sako.fi for example you will probably find they are cheaper in the USA than in Finland. Quite a lot of Finnish shooters and hunters buy all their gear from the USA and have it shipped over here (even stuff that is Made in Finland!). This also applies to scopes etc.

The € / $ conversion is against you at the moment.

Anyway, here's one in Helsinki: http://www.urheiluase.fi/ (click on "yhteys" for phone number and email address)

Tiwaz (futhark?) thanks for the added information. Basically for used discontinued models of Valmets. Based on the links Finland seems to have some still. The store that imports is how I was thinking too. As for the Barrett the answer is simple - you want to hunt them at 1.6km:)

Zetor you're the man. Thx Penelope too, nice stores.

Thanks again you're all real helpful,
Scott

I apologize for bumping an old thread, but recently my girlfriend's grandfather passed away and her father in Finland asked us if we would like to inherit the rifles. We agreed to it . So far, we found a broker who will take them into Canada. Export and import permits are already filed. However, we still need to find a shipping company will take them.

Apparently Posti used to send and receive firearms internationally prior to 2011, but they don't allow this anymore. Still waiting for a response from UPS or DHL, but I have a feeling the exporting person (private individual) needs a business account-- which he doesn't have nor does he want to set up one.

At this point, it seems like going to Finland and coming back with the firearms is the easiest way. Well, my girlfriend is currently in Finland and will be coming to Canada in June; but she doesn't have a permit to legally possess firearms at the moment.

Anyone has any insight in the manner?

Thank you!

Contact some local gunsmith and ask to send the gun over the pond? Sure it will cost something, but is probably cheaper than flying you over. As for the gf... she could ask for the permit from the police, but after the school shootings she probably won't get one.

Hi guys,

Im into finding a nice M39 rifle, since it is one of the most awesome bolt action rifles in ww2. So my question is if anyone of you know any dealer in Finland with experience in these rifles?

Best regards,

Illen
