Unemployment
http://www.hs.fi/kotimaa/artikkeli/Maah ... 5250428287
Maahanmuuttajista noin 40 prosenttia on työttöminä.....
Työnhakijoina oli syyskuussa 35 600 maahanmuuttajaa. Heistä työttömiä oli 15 950.
So translated this means that in Pohjois-Karjala about 40 % of foreigners are unemployed. But now for the interesting bit: in September 35 600 foreigners were looking for a job. Of those 35 600 only 15 950 are called unemployed.
My question is: who are those foreigners that are looking for a job, but not unemployed? And do they really dare to take those 20 000 people out of the unemployment statistics?
Probably the biggest part of those 20 000 are on some kind of language course and therefore not taken into account. But that makes the figure of 40 % unemployment a rather big understatement, doesn' t it?

Re: Unemployment
Haven't you heard all them politicians say we have this huge demand for labor, and thus we need huge amounts of immigrants, eh?
Oh, and another fix, give the unemployed citizenship and they're not immigrant/foreigner unemployeds so you get as good a statistical fix than putting them on a course.
Repeat after me: huutava työvoimapula.
Those who don't fit in the box they calculate the "unemployeds" with - you have to be home, twiddling thumbs, registered in the unemployment office as a jobseeker and filling that paper with työtön for kela. Anything else *plufff* magic happens.who are those foreigners that are looking for a job, but not unemployed?

Repeats: Huutuva työvoimapula.
Two magical words! I really wish there was at least a tiny bit of truth in them. I'd so enjoy to live in Finland and feel usefull. Now I am useful in another country and faking to be happier in this urban jungle than I was al those years in Finland.

Re: Unemployment
I find this more worrying though: http://www.iltalehti.fi/uutiset/2009103 ... 6_uu.shtml
Foreigners get screwed because they think they are getting a good deal... well - they got work - as opposed to not having it I suppose.

Re: Unemployment
If you are working part-time, or you are in the course organized by unemployment office or you're a part-time student, you are registered as a job seeker, but not considered as unemployed.
Also persons on maternity leave can be registered as job seekers, but not unemployed.

Re: Unemployment
You gotta love unemployment statistics - it seems impossible to get an accurate picture of the unemployment status of a population

Which is of course the whole point.Cloudberry wrote:You gotta love unemployment statistics - it seems impossible to get an accurate picture of the unemployment status of a population
Better horrible lie than devastating truth.
Re: Unemployment
Maybe people (reporters) should look at number of _employed_ people, instead of unemployed? I is those people in the end that support the unemployed, studying, sick, elderly, etc.

Compared to their own country/-ies, it might just be (a paradise). I can't really argue the jobs-thingy, though (or the lack of it)..raamv wrote:No wonder the ignorant people who dont speak Finnish Or are not higher up in the value chain think this is a paradise where jobs are plentiful-...
This is what I've been shown yesterday, so naturally I compared it to my own country.
I think I got my answer regarding the reason I'm willing and I do take a little !"#¤% for a lil' more prosperity.

Re: Unemployment
I didn't realise that not speaking Finnish well made me 'ignorant'. Perhaps if, when i was at high school, i had spent less time avoiding the pitfalls of drug abuse that is common in my hometown, less time obtaining a higher education, and then spent more time seeking out the one and only Finnish language teacher in Scotland (fact) in preparation for the off chance that 10 years later i might actually fall in love with someone from Finland, I might actually enjoy a more lofty vocation should i have decided to move here. I am not unemployed and my Finnish is poor. Now I have to digest the type of snobbery that dubs me ignorant.
