Civil engineering job

Post by sankyx » Sun Nov 08, 2009 2:07 am

Hello,

How hard is to find a job as a civil engineer or in the construction area if you dont speak finish. I have a degree in Civil engineering, since i got it in Dominican republic i think that would make it a harder to find a job there. If you could give me any information regarding the construction market for english speaker it would be great.

The construction market is in an all time low.
Many foreign construction workers were fired.
Finding a job in that field will be difficult.
Without Finnish, you should concentrate on foreign companies having large projects here. (sorry I don't have any names)

Construction of new homes is pretty low but you only have to look around to see how much infrastructure building is going on. In Espoo we have the metro and the waste water treatment plant about to start which are both MASSIVE construction projects lasting several years. Then there is also Suurpelto (a new suburb being built from scratch) which has just started. The Länsiväylä is to be extended through Kirkkonummi, that hasn't even begun yet. Roads are being widened and improved everywhere (eg the main road from Suomenoja to Tapiola).

And the debate is ongoing on whether or not to build an Oikiluoto 2.

Siemens is one company involved in the metro project. Not sure who has won the waste water treatment plant though. Lemminkäinen seems to be involved in all construction work in Finland one way or another. www.lemminkainen.fi

You could try this one. It doesn't last very long but it gives you a chance to get noticed by those who hire engineers.

Hello guys, thank you very much for your answers.

But i think i wil have to wait for now, i was in finland for a few weeks and i fell in love with the country, but now i learn that i cant change my tourist visa to a working visa if i dont have a job offer, and right now that would be difficult, since im at Dominican Republic and i wont go to Finland just to find a job for now. I will try anyway, who knows if i can get an interview!

Thanks again.
Hope to be there soon
