American CDL license
Does anyone know if a traditional CDL license from America will transfer in Finland as normal? Would employers consider that enough to allow someone to operate large vehicles? I am sure you would have to renew in Finland or establish a Finnish license at some point but my husband has already done the testing and has proven a safe driver in his current position.

With a non-EU license you only get a "B" in exchange. And now theres a new EU directive requiring the "commercial" licence course for everything above that has to be renewed... ummm... the law is not out yet but it can be 5-15 years. So basically if you get your CEDE => to drive commercailly you need the course on top.

Thanks. We figured he would have some changes in his license. We will have to get the tests done when we get there. Thanks! Also, we have heard that they usually test people on a stick shift in all license options. Is that true?

No. You can take the test also with automatic tranny, but then you are not allowed to drive stick. http://www.ake.fi/autoilunerityis/fi/sivu45.htm 78.amberpatomo wrote:Also, we have heard that they usually test people on a stick shift in all license options. Is that true?

Commercial licence without stick? Laughed out of the DMV that one. When I took my truck drive test I had to show I could kick-down with an unsynchronized gearbox. Nevermind the parallell parking and other fun stuff..
"Automatic only" was an "invalid endorsement"... automatics used to be rare as chickens teeth back in the day I got mine in the 80's still... so they were for veterans and such with hand gas and other special equipment.

Thanks for the information. We figured that it would be a process to get it transferred.
