Fixing computers in part time!

Post by Cool » Wed Feb 17, 2010 11:14 pm

I need advice on how to advertise myself as somebody who can fix computers related issues, e.g. fixing windows, internet, install new hardware etc etc. What Finnish forums i can use to get myself listed? I can get a Finnish friend to make the add in Finnish but wanna know where to advertise it.

People who would be likely to your customers are the ones that won't look for the help from forums. They will look from yellow pages, newspaper, shop's notice board etc.

Well that seems like a failure of a computer repair service right there!

Their ONLY computer... nowadays it seems that everyone and their cat has a laptop and then there is some tower models in tables and storerooms, not to mention internet capable phones, so getting a loaner or just using the remaining machines is certainly the first step with broken computer.

Ah, he's not even really fixing computers, see. "Computer-related issues"! He also seems to do carpentry and glazier work on the side, since he can fix your windows while he's in the house. I wonder if he could fix my internet - could he archive it so that it's small enough to download? It's also too slow. I bought a wireless-N router to make it faster but it seems to be the same as before. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

SInce you seem to be lacking the ability to engage in abstract syntax and thoughts you are most likley doing something wrong. Eat more fat fish and that stuff.

Hi Cool,

I think you might benefit from finding some of the houses build for old people, you know, the step befor nursinghome. I go to one every month to visit my wifes grandmother and there always seem to be loads of problems with an amazing amount of computers since they all seem to be using computers even over 85 :D . I think there are loads of these "protected" buildings around where you could have a go.

Good luck,

Ah, but can he interact with both the customer and the OS? Fine, Win-R -> ipconfig/msconfig/gpedit/services/whatever is the same in any Windows version regardless of language, but computer problems are often the result of the infamous OSI layer 8 problem, and for that some interaction with the user is probably necessary. It doesn't seem like the OP can speak Finnish too well if he's needing others to do something as basic as write up an advert on his behalf. Even if they can be solved wholly on the basis of what's in the OS, getting subtle clues from the user can often shave some hours off the solution time.
