Question about TyEL

Post by mckean » Thu Jun 12, 2014 10:22 am

Hei,

Would anyone shed a light on me about TyEl. I start my own business and now recruit one new worker.

As my understanding, the TyEL for 2014 is 24,2% from salary. The worker pays 5,55% and I (the owner) pay the rest 18,65%. Is this right?

To whom should I contact about this payment TyEl (I meant to inform that we have new worker, and I would pay his TyEL) ?

There's a government site that can be used to calculate salaries. Here is their learning service:

https://opi.palkka.fi

The exact split doesn't really matter from a practical point of view. You as the employer will still be the one who wires all of the TyEL to the pension company. The split only matters for what gets recorded as the gross salary on the pay slip.

You need to contract with a pension company. There's logos of many of them on the right side:

Oh, thank you so much for your quick reply.

So I should actively contact the company (for example: Ilmairinen) to inform them that I have a new worker and follow their instruction?

This would be my another issue as I did have already a worker who has beening working for me for about 1,5 years but I have done nothing for him about TyEL.

His 2013 salary (gross) is about 18.000€, do you mean I shouls pay 18.000x 23,8% = 4140 € for the TyEL company???

Yes you should actively contact them to get signed up. I do not know how the process work once you have TyEL and you add more employees later on. Their customer service will instruct you on this.

You were supposed to withhold the employee part of the TyEL and pay it to the insurance company. Yes you have been skipping paying thousands of euros in pension payments. You will probably need expert accountant help and negotiating a plan with a pension company to retroactively fix the issue (I also don't know whether some sanctions are likely).

These guides are up to date and useful. There is a section on employing employees (page 42 in the English version) http://www.yrityssuomi.fi/tutustu-yrity ... -oppaisiin

And this summarises the contributions in 2014: http://www.tyoelake.fi/en/Pages/Contrib ... imits.aspx

You should also be paying health contributions and unemployment contributions for your employees and in some sectors (eg construction) accident insurance is also required.

Or you can just go to a TyEL provider and get someone at a desk to set it all up. example
http://www.lahitapiola.fi/henkilo

then if you have concerns during the startup you can just call, email to your contact person. They love it.
If you have 60% shareholding you also need YEL ,the same group can do both.
If you are using palkka.fi ,there are settings that can automate the calculated TyEL payment , but your finnish or swedish needs to be high level to get some efficiency out of palkka.
