I am a Non-EU national living in Finland in the basis of studies. Back in august I applied for a renewal of my residence permit before it expired. Along with my studies, I have been working in three different places on a temporary-basis, one of such jobs being second assistant of a blind person from time to time (when the principal assistant is unable to help). At the beginning of september I was contacted to know if I could work once a week during the evenings, since the blind lady I help is attending a course to which the principal assistant is unable to accomodate in her schedule; however, when I stated that I didn't have my residence permit for the time being, she asked me to wait until it arrives or to help her without pay (actually I was really angry at this fact, since the pay is already too low for the work that involves). But now that she is finding again difficult to get help for her attendance at the course, I was contacted again and I tried to agree with her that I could help her without payment, but once the permit arrives, I would be expecting having the previous salaries taking into account and she again said she could wait for me to get the card.

So, trying to summarise a bit, would this be allowed? I mean, I am under contract directly with the city of Seinäjoki, but the employer is the blind lady, and I only get paid each month if I return a form signed by this lady stating how many hours I have worked during a given month. Nevertheless, as I exposed before, she seems reluctant to allow me help her in the time being while I await for my residence permit (for which the police has said that with refugees and stuff, they will be taking the 3 months they have allowed for the processing of my application); even if I understand she is the employer and she has the ultimate decision whether I work or not with her, I remember reading somewhere that during the time my application is being reviewed, my old migratory status stays valid and I retain my rights (studies/work), but I seem unable to find this statement anywhere in migri/poliisi websites, does anyone know where could I find information regarding this fact to show my employer?

Cheers!
tl/dr, but I think you are after this:
"If you have already been granted a residence permit on the basis of employment or some other residence permit on the basis of which you are entitled to work, you may continue the work that you are entitled to do in the same field during the processing of your extended permit on condition that you have applied for an extended permit before the expiry of your previous permit."
