Hi,
I got some advice a couple of weeks ago about how to proceed with renewing my student permit. Turns out now that I just got a job with a company who wants me to work full time as soon as possible. They know that I am on a student permit that will expire soon (end of December) and they will employ me part-time (from beginning of December) until I get a work permit and can start working full time. They expect that I start trying to switch to work permit as soon as possible. Is this something that is possible? Is it possible to just switch from a student permit to work permit like that? I have only been in Finland since January 2015. What are the chances that I will even get this work permit or should I just go ahead and renew my student permit? I really want to avoid being denied the work permit and then being stuck in an unfortunate jobless limbo.
Thank You!

Depends on the labor available consideration done by TE office unless you qualify as a specialist.ddddd wrote: Is this something that is possible?
Your employer can request to get advance knowledge in two weeks.ddddd wrote:What are the chances that I will even get this work permit or should I just go ahead and renew my student permit?

You could write in the extra information of your application that you want a student permit instead if the employment based application fails. I don't know how Migri / police views this but since it's part of the permanent permit application forms that they can fall back on A permit, I don't see why the same couldn't be done for A to B.ddddd wrote: I really want to avoid being denied the work permit and then being stuck in an unfortunate jobless limbo.
