To anyone with a passing interest in economics and the job market in Finland, the Heritge Foundation's comments in their 2017 freedom index are very interesting.
The labor market, however, is characterized by high costs and burdensome regulations. The nonsalary cost of employing a worker is high, and the severance payment scheme remains costly.

So please remember when you hear people outside of Finland talking about the great benefits for workers (like the generous maternity / paternity leave) remember that those great benefits are lowering
your chances of getting (or keeping) a job here. There is no free lunch

And why is that in any way news? It's been like this for a long time, and Finland is not the only country with this 'problem' in Europe.

Yeah it is not news, but I am always surprised at how many people cannot join the dots between good benefits and low job opportunities.
