PORVOO
Teacosies
On Saturday, 8 September 2007, in brilliant sunshine, the Finn-Guild/Porvoo network "Teacosies" enjoyed the hospitality of Maggi & Eric Routledge in their new home on the island of Emäsalo, near Porvoo. The Routledges have recently retired from England to Maggi's native Emäsalo, which was previously their holiday resort. Now they have settled permanently in a beautiful house by the sea, surrounded by ancient nature and also stunning landscaping and planting. The autumnal invitation attracted people from quite far away, all the way from Helsinki, Myrskylä and Kellokoski. A full dozen of us, younger and older, sat for hours happily around a tasty and relaxed big table, never short of topics or laughs.

We decided to get together next time in Porvoo, Sat 24 November at 3 p.m. Already there and then we booked a table for us in Café Cabriole, Piispankatu 30, by the bus station/market square. The reason we abandonded Café Helmi, is that during the run up to Christmas, the old town is filled with tourists and most of them end up in Helmi.

Looking ahead, we pictured ourselves having a winter frolic on the ice in February, maybe even some winter swimming... The Routledges kindly said we could meet again at their place. Tentative date for this Winter Event is Sat 9 February 2008. Confirmation and more details later.

Graham wants to get people in the Keski-Suomi region together. His plan is to establish a network of friends to whom one can turn in time of need or simply just someone to discuss the 'meaning of life' with over a glass of whatever does you good. The first ever gathering took place in March in the Gastro-pub Jalo in the Sokos Hotel Alexandra. (For those who could not make it, see Graham's letter.)

During the latest get-together at the Ban Thai restaurant in Jyväskylä, the assembled company decided that there should not be a meeting during December as it is usually a busy enough time for all. By way of compensation for that little disappointment we agreed to hold a Pikku Joulu evening on Thursday, 29 November.

Graham and Eila Burns would therefore like to extend an invitation to all Finn-Guild members in the Keski-Suomi region to join them at their home (Kylänlahdentie, 5A, Muurame) at 6 pm on Thursday, 29 November. This will be a nyyttikesti (bring your own) type of event. They will make some glögi and provide the biscuits. You might consider bringing some snacks (savoury or sweet) and perhaps whatever else you like to drink. They will also warm up the sauna (e.g. ladies’ 6 to 7 pm and gents’ 7 to 8 pm) so take your towel if you would like to partake.

Graham and Eila sincerely hope that you will be available to join them. If so, would you please let them know by email at graham.burns(at)finn-guild.org by a day or so beforehand so that they can make sure that they have enough hot glögi for you.
