Easter Weekend?
i'm not entirely sure where to put this, so i'm putting it here.
after having experienced the panic at stores for a few holidays already here, and coming from a place where nothing ever really closes ever, i thought i'd ask ahead of time.
if and/or when are stores closed for easter weekend in finland? if i go to the shops on friday evening, will i be in a queue that snakes all the way to the deli counter again?
if they are closed this weekend, when do they open up again?
ta, in advance!
(apologies for the seemingly silly questions. but, we be foreigners. )

The majority of Shops are shut..Friday ...Sunday and Monday..Saturday is a normal day.
Thursday Evening is "queue" time..

Re: Easter Weekend?
thanks much for that. whilst i'd love to be alone at the local shop, it wouldn't be quite as productive to go when things are shut tight, eh?
oh...and happy easter!

Scroll down this page there is a table with all the opening times for 2008.
http://www.pty.fi/52.html
The first column is the holiday (Pääsiäinen is Easter)
The second column is the date eg: 21.3 is the 21st March 2008
The third column shows the permitted opening hours for smaller supermarkets (under 400 m2) eg SIWA
The fourth column shows the permitted opening hours for regular supermarkets and other stores

There's Pikkolo (small K-shop) just on the corner, and its' open in practice every day, so I don't even bother to check wether bigger shops are closed or not.
But, is Alko open, that's the question.

K market in kamppi claims to be open 365 days.

Re: Easter Weekend?
There are always some really small lähikaupat that are open every day (as other posters already pointed out), they should have a sign on their door saying which days during the holiday weekend they are open and for how long. My local SIWA is going to be open during the entire Easter weekend every day from 7-23.
