Le Monde on Kofi Annan's vacation in Finland: "..does not remember the name of the island, but the name would be impossible to pronounce anyhow."
HA!
French aav ze balls!
Yes, I spotted that, too... and also the stuff about how difficult they found it to envisage Annan hanging loose with a rod and line. Strange how we have become so obsessed with image in that way - but prolly just another reflection of how we tend to view EVERYTHING through the cloudy filter of TV sound-bites. Annan standing at UN HQ, Annan shakes <insert name of dignitary here> by the hand at opening of <insert worthy cause here>, etc, etc.
The idea that these guys would have a life, a wife, a dog, and would perhaps like to wig out on a bottle of burgundy/Anchor Steam/Jack Daniels and an episode of Midsommer Murders just doesn't occur to them.
