hardest language in the world
I am an American who learned a little German in high school, and heard Finnish spoken as a young child. I'm now trying to teach myself Finnish and find it to be very difficult, so I keep trying to make it fun and not get bogged down in all the rules. My self-created Finnish language immersion program right now consists of a couple language-learning CDs which I listen to in the car on the way to work and back, mixed with Eppu Normaali suomirock (and a little bit of Varttina folk music). So these days when I'm in the car, I hear Finnish. My bigggest problem right now is how to build a sentence that effectively communicates. I now know many words, but connecting them together in a meaningful way with all these endings is tough for me. I can point to things and identify them in Finnish, but building a sentence that reflects my thoughts is another matter. I think Finnish is pretty darn hard!

Ahh, Eppu Normaali!. Now, there is some insight to the finnish psyche:Ravvy wrote:mixed with Eppu Normaali suomirock (and a little bit of Varttina folk music).

Roughly translated:
"Little demons are inside my head, cracking the seal on a bottle..." (of booze)

Kiitos!
No joo...saksakin on vaikea...ehkäpä...koska lauseasenne on vähän erikoista.
Masokisti??? Miski olisin? En ainakaan ole huomanut
For people who would like to learn Finnish I can advise to go live in a family or with friends, take a Finnish course and lend children books from the library. That's how I learnt Finnish. I think it's almost impossible to learn Finnish properly from a country other than Finland. You have to understand Finnish culture, hear the language every day, meet Finnish people to start living in the language...
Hyvää uutta vuotta vielä...and a Happy New Year!

Most of those just replace prepositions (in, on of, to, from, with) etc. Prepositions have always been the hardest part in learning new languages for me.Kätkyt wrote:Finnish is hard.
House=Talo
talo
talon
taloa
talona
taloksi
talossa
talosta
taloon
talolla
talolta
talolle
-and this is only one word. You have to choose the right one.
And remember that there is only one irregular verb in finnish. Hundreds of those in german for example.
Same thing in English really, we just do it with prepositions.Kätkyt wrote:Finnish is hard.

talo = house
talon = house's
taloa = some of the house
talona = don't know one for this
taloksi = into/as the house
talossa = in the house
talosta = from inside the house
taloon = into the house
talolla = next to the house
talolta = from beside the house
talolle = to the side of the house

There are at least four irregular verbs in Finnish:Argan wrote:Most of those just replace prepositions (in, on of, to, from, with) etc. Prepositions have always been the hardest part in learning new languages for me.Kätkyt wrote:Finnish is hard.
