Help with Finnish please?

Post by iloveteemu8 » Fri Dec 26, 2003 9:27 pm

Hello, I have been looking all over for someone who might help me with a couple of translations? See I have made a website for my favorite hockey player Teemu Selanne and since I know that he has many Finnish fans, I have translated the site into Finnish. But I had much help so far, and now my help is gone :-(

There is no way I will properly translate the little bit that is left. Only a few sentences, and then a few short ones that are only 3 words or so. If there is anyone in here who would please help me? I would appreciate it so very much, I've worked so hard on the site, and I am so anxious to have it all finished soon. You can just reply, or PM me... then I will get the sentences to you how ever you like.

Thank you so much for your time! :-)

Teemu talking to kids about success in the NHL.

Hope you don't mind Peter but not to confuse you 'iloveteemu8' the first two sentences and the last you wanted have not been translated, so skip them and then all the text is in the right corresponding order!

Here are the other three sentences as follows...

Here are a few wallpapers that I made. You can download them in either 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution.

Tein muutamia taustakuvia. Voitte tallentaa ne joko 800x600 tai 1024x768 tarkkuudella.

The wallpaper is in zip format, if you need a zip utility visit this site.

Taustakuva on zip-muodossa, jos tarvitset zip-ohjelmaa, käytä tätä sivua.

Sorry, I am unable to translate this page at this time.

Anteeksi, en pysty kääntämäänä tällä kertaa tätä sivua.

BTW , as a fan of twoome silaani (or whatever the NHL commentators butcher the name as) - what is the fan page anyways? We might get you some material from the Finnish newspapers let alone tabloids. If nothing else send a pic of Teemu's identical twin brother

Spliting hairs...but ref "another goal " and "Toinen Maali" it realy only means "another goal" if it is the "second goal"..
I have on, just a few occasions, been corrected in the pub when I ordered "toinen olut" when it has been perhaps my third or even subsequent beer.. I am told that I should say..."Taas Olutta!"..It could then mean "Yet again another beer!" Maippi usualy says it for me with an indication that it is perhaps soon time to go home......
So as any fan of TS would be hoping that the subject goal was one of many not just number two..then "Taas Maali !"..is probably beter.

Ok, so now I am confused! Who is right? What translation should I use? Sorry, about all this :-) I will post a link to the site just as soon as I get these right translations on.
The site is all about Teemu Selanne and his NHL career. I have stats and photos and video, audio... and I also made a few desk top wallpapers. I would love anything you come across. And I would like to see Teemu's brother Paavo, I've only seen a picture of him as a child.

Thank you all so much for your help.

another goal: toinen maali, taas maaliin!

Both will do. This is for the pub:

Ota vielä toinen.

Well I think I got it all settled down now. So the site is done, but since you are all natives... it would be nice if you looked over and told me if there are any major mistakes.

Thanks again so much. And like I said if you come across anything about Teemu, pictures stuff like that I would appreciate you sending it to me. My e-mail is on the site.

Teemu talks about kid's goals and dreams.

shouldn't this be
'Teemu puhuu lasten tavotteista ja unelmista',
not maaleista ?

At least that's how I understood it.

Yeah, goal in life or goal in game? Two different things. Depends on the context... see this is why one needs to see the page before making a translation. So much depends on the situation...

Ok, I hope that's it... no one noticed anything else? I fixed the problem, and sorry about not showing you the site before asking for a translation, It's just that it was all confusing, with me trying to translate by myself and knowing nothing! But now it's all done. I am so relieved, and I've received good reviews of the site so far. :D

Thank you all again, I don't know what I would have done without you!

And please do be on the lookout Hank :-) Thank you.
