Learn Finnish by listening to the radio

I took this from the YLE Hp

LEARNING FINNISH

Starting Finnish is the name of a course in Finnish aired on YLE Radio Finland. The course airs on Capital FM Mondays through Saturdays at 22.50 - 23.00. Elementary level lessons are sent early in the week and intermediate lessons on Thursdays through Saturdays. The course is based on the book Suomea Suomeksi by Dr Olli Nuutinen, published by the Finnish Literature Society, Helsinki. Volume 1: ISBN 951-717-737-2, Volume 2 ISBN 951-717-764-x. The YLE course is not available on tape. YLE does not sell the book.

The series has 90 installments. Most of the lessons have been written by lecturer Eila Hämäläinen of the University of Helsinki. The broadcast teachers are Patrick Humphreys, Michael Short, Katheleen Moore and Kimmo Wilska.

For listeners with some command of Finnish YLE Radio Finland offers daily broadcasts in "Special Finnish". The five minute broadcasts cover items of current interest. The language used is somewhat simplified. For broadcast times in your area consult the page Selkosuomi.

I have heard a couple of tapes of these broadcast they are or were actualy based on articles from a Finnish paper called "Selkosumi" which is aimed at Finns with a "learning problem" it means "simplfied Finnish Language" and for intermediate foreign ..learners very good practice at listening to finnish..But try hunting the YLE web site for "the page Selkosuomi"..if you find it tell me where it is!
I notice that one of the contributors is Katheleen Moore ..WLM ...does she belong to you?

I'd love to listen to this programme on the net, but having probs finding site. I've tried Capital FM YLE site, but doesn't seem to have a link to a player. Do you know where I can find a suitable link?

News in special finnish are also broadcasted online, on real audio format. They are automatically updated, so you only need to add the following link to your Real Player:

Looking for suggestions. I have go to each of the links in this thread and so far am unable to get any radio stations on my computer. I have a Mac G4 with access to itunes. I'm in Los Angeles, if that matters.

Any advice for listening to the Finnish language programs would be greatly appreciated.

.. sure you can, if you have FM converter pci card for your computer...you can listen and record the station...no problems...I dont have a card as it is illegal unless you have a HAM RADIO LICENSE to own such a pci card. You might find one in a HAM RADIO SHOP but do not know of any here in Finland / or at least in the Helsinki region. =) just my two cents worth. 8)
How much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?
