hello everyone!
my name is yasmin, and i just joined a few moments ago. i was very happy to find this site, as i began my attempt to learn finnish about a month ago. i was spurred on by a friend i made, who lives in finland. the more i learned about the country, the more fascinated i became, and soon became completely devoted to travelling there one day.
i also decided to try and learn the language, to better communicate with my friend. although he speaks english perfectly well, i guess i wanted a challenge. boy was i in for one. i'm currently working in teach yourself finnish, but i also have a copy of mastering finnish. almost everyday i hunt for affordable finnish course books. i know the best way to learn is to speak it, but i always get self conscious about pronunciation. at first read throughs, it all seemed so hopelessly daunting, and i often get frustrated, but i guess the key is not to give up. every new word i learn is a small triumph. i am moving slowly, but i want to absorb everything, and that is a lot! this site really is a godsend, as where i live, no one cares(and in many cases, has never even heard) of finland. i am so looking forward to hopefully becoming a part of the community.

Hello there fellow Bostonian. When I was attempting to study Finnish before I arrived in Finland ( I am still studying here..and it is still a challenge), I found a lovely resource in Lexington MA. They offer Finnish classes for adults in Lexington and Littleton.
Hopefully this link will help
