Looking for Finnish tutor in Helsinki

Hello. I'm going to Helsinki this summer from June 18th - july 4th, staying a couple days in Lahti after this date. My main "goal" of this trip is to learn as much Finnish as possible.

Does anyone know how I can come in contact with a tutor in the Helsinki area?

I have no idea about tutors, but I suppose staying in Helsinki would make the most sense for you. Just going by probabilities, there can't be a better place to find a tutor than Helsinki. And for your touristic needs, Helsinki has the most things to see in southern Finland. If you figure out that you want to see someplace else, you can easily make a one-day trip there.

Are you starting from scratch with your Finnish? Three weeks isn't that much if you aren't going to spend your whole holiday studying.

I'm starting pretty much from scratch, yeah. Looks like I won't be working as much towards the summer, so I'll try to pick up on the self-studying. I'm also hoping that spending 3 weeks in Finland will sort of kick-start it, because I'm not sure where to start with learning Finnish.

I was thinking about maybe 3-4 hours a day (weekends off) for 13 days.

Is it possible to get a tutor for €15-20 an hour, you think?

So far I've only found one person offering Finnish lessons (on this website http://www.helsinginkieltenopettajat.fi). I wonder if there are any "secret"/"hidden" websites for Finnish tutors, hehe.

They probably aren't the thing you are looking for. They are member of this association: http://www.sukol.fi/in_english
Dunno how you could get in touch with some students, as they might be more affordable help, but you could try to find tutor from people who organize these courses: http://www.finnishcourses.fi/

Gah, should've linked this earlier. Here's a form for job offers for the English philology students in the University of Helsinki. It specifically mentions private lessons (yksityisopetus) but I think they're mostly thinking about teaching English. Most of them don't study Finnish so I'm not sure about their Finnish teaching skills. (Though some of them do a minor in pedagogics in order to become English teachers, which might help.)

If you're really desperate... I study English translation and Finnish, and have some books for learning Finnish, but haven't really done any tutoring (well, I kinda tutored my ex in advanced maths in high school, but she already knew how to add and substract

). My job situation for the summer is a bit sketchy at the moment.

. Either way, I'm in Helsinki, and I have found a great teacher! I got offers from €15-40 (some meant for 60 minutes, some for 45 minutes).

I must say, I love Helsinki. The area I live in is great. I'm pretty sure I'm going to move here for at least a year (starting next summer, or maybe next spring).

Does anyone know any students (or someone that is working) living in Norway (city of Stavanger/Sandnes, that might be interested in making some extra money teaching Finnish? If you do, please shoot me a PM!
