My name is Luther. I'm from Westminster Massachusetts. I'm tring to teach myself Finnish from a text book and two useless cassettes that only read out some cornny dialoge, not the vocab lists! So as a result I can read and write Finnish much better than speaking or listening! I don't have satalite tv or anything like that, so I can't get Finnish programs. Aren't there any educational videos out there somewhere?!? I'm starting to get a bit discouraged

The good news is that if you can read and write Finnish, you can say it, since the correspondence between the written and spoken language is basically 1:1! There's only one way to pronounce things, so you're halfway there!

There is a speech synthesizer of Finnish at : http://www.mikropuhe.com/demo.asp
Write a word or sentences in the text field, then click on "Kuuntele puhe"!
The synthesizer is very good at pronouncing separate words. If it says a whole sentence there is always something wrong with the accent but it is very easy to understand what it says.
