Well, its as you say: or rather: reserve and order.

I think the mnemonic is:
Varata is when something is kept for you. Reserve/book/keep on hold - library book, theatre ticket, restaurant table, hotel room...
Tilata is when something gets delivered to you. Order - pizza, magazine, banquet, call girl...

Sometimes people do mix these up a bit, in general travelling you "reserve" a trip and book the tickets, but sometimes people say - especially online they "order" something if the tickets get delivered... but I'd stick to the thumb rule.

virata sounds like it is some word misspelled, without any other words to help there are some words that came to my mind:
virrata
virtaa
viirata
viratta
