Baby name meaning and origin

Post by Nukkepöksy » Mon Sep 16, 2013 3:03 pm

My husband and I welcomed our first child into the world two days ago. We have decided to name her Auli, and have read two different meanings for her name on the Internet (none with good sources we can double check ourselves). One says the name is from Aulikki and the other from Aulis. :flowerhat: One says the meaning of her name is "joy/happiness" and others claim it's "helpful/willing".

Can anyone tell me which is correct for the origin and meaning? Kiitos!

Auli and Aulikki are female names, while Aulis is a male name. I guess they are all based on the word aulis, "helpful, willing".

According to the Population Register Centre's name service, Aulis gained popularity first (the 1900s), then Aulikki (the 1920s), followed by Auli (the 1940s).
