Re: Finnish form of surname
Well, it would be mangled on the tongue so a "Bauer" would come "Pauri" or "Pauriainen"... Cf "Pakarinen" from "Bagare" (baker)... Finnish loves the vowels on the end.
As far as "Sinelmä" says, there is a (protected) surname "Talonpoika" but its not a common one.... ( in England there was "Younghusband" who went to Lhasa, in Finland as a farmer you understand what the "young husband" is but we use the word they use in Estonia for "farmhand" as the "married groom" whrreas in English you talk of "animal husbandry" and it doesn't mean welsh traditions...

That's actually a pretty good one for OP. That's what his last name would end up in Finland anyway... take a foreign sounding word and add an i to it at the end, and you are good to go!tummansininen wrote: The Rasmus had a song with a guy in it named Pauri

What you need to go find first is from the VRK pages if that name already exists. You can't "take" a surname just like that.

I think there is still an unrepealed section in the criminal code stating "if someone seduces a virgin to marry him, misrepresenting his name, his class or rank.... "

Don't even need to be a virgin.Pursuivant wrote:I think there is still an unrepealed section in the criminal code stating "if someone seduces a virgin to marry him, misrepresenting his name, his class or rank.... "

Though most of the "good stuff" has been repealed. If you can, go to a library and get a 1950's lawbook and read
