Hello from New York everybody!
I've been curious about the Finnish language for many years now. Would somebody please translate the following sentence using colloquial Finnish? Thank you.
"Finnish. Now that's a language one rarely hears around here." Or something to that effect.
I can do the first word: "Suomi...."
Thanks

Upphew, isn't it Suomea? Because Suomi is used to refer to Finland itself.
Puhutko suomea? Do you speak Finnish? - isn't that how you say it?
Or suomen kieli.

suomi, suomea, suomen, suomeksi... it's the same word - just different endings (due to the grammar).
Suomi - Finland
suomi - Finnish
Suomi - Finland
suomi - Finnish

One could have translated the example sentence:Spirit of the Forest wrote:Upphew, isn't it Suomea? Because Suomi is used to refer to Finland itself.

Or suomen kieli.
Suomen kieli. Siinäpä kieli mitä täällä ei yleensä kuule.
But in that you would repeat the word kieli, and that sounds a bit silly.
