Singing makes me--ksi, right?

Post by cssc » Tue Jun 23, 2015 9:29 am

I want to say "Singing makes me happier than anything else." Pretty sure I need to use the translative case here. So how do I say this exactly, using 'iloinen'?
Thanks.

Laulaminen tekee/saa minut iloisemmaksi kuin mikään muu. This is how I would say it. Experts will hopefully show up later.

Mikä tekee sinut iloiseksi?
So..what makes you (singing or anything) should be in nominiitivi, not partitiivi. Action is resultative.....so minut, not minua.

Direct translation of happier than anything else would be "iloisempi kuin mitään muuta". But I'm not sure whether people say it much, or whether it would fit better using translative case for the sentence you asked about. I rarely use it. I will leave it to the better Finnish nerds for a translation specifically using translatiivi 8)
About iloisempi kuin mitään muuta....I think it should be 'kukaan muu' because we are likely taking about humans here. I am happier than the rest of you, for example. Partitiivi is not used here because....well..iloisempi kuin minä/hän, not minua or häntä..it's not an object. my 2 cents :)
