Dog Names

Post by Paul_US » Wed Jul 05, 2017 6:01 pm

Hello, saw an old posting on this subject and was hoping to update it. Looking for a name for our new dog. Hauska, Poika, Pentu are in the running. He has a big black spot on his right eye, but don't know any Finnish word for that, that's easy to call him in with. Any feedback/suggestions? Thank you.

Hi!
Here are some suggestions...

My favorites: Laikku = patch

... or Musti = "blakie" - perhaps the most common dog's name in FInland

... or Laku = short for Lakritsa = licorice

Hope this helps. :-)

Täplä = “dot”, “spot”.

Hauska, Poika and Pentu are a bit too generic for my taste. Does anyone name their dog Funny, Boy or Puppy in English?

No clue, but after all some Finns name their sons "Veli" and daughters "Sisko", so I guess Finland is the promised land of extremely generic names. :lol:

Would Kissa be a good non-generic name for a dog?

Indeed it would! Or naming striped one Spot or white one Musti.
