Have a look at this list...

...many "ethnic" stores are indeed in Hakaniemi / Hämeentie area, but there are some others scattered around the city as well. However AFAIK the best/biggest ones can be found in the list above.

... their "map" function could be a bit more informative, though

Very handy! I have long thought (and I think suggested), there should be a sticky thread listing all the places for getting "exotic foods" in Hki, possibly Finland.sammy wrote:... their "map" function could be a bit more informative, though

Jasmin Food stocks jelly (jello), tinned cream, Bird's custard powder, ghee.
Indian Market PG Tips teabags, ginger beer, Horlicks.

Indian Markets
You can try:
Indian Market, Maharaja (they have 2 shops now), Taj Mahal in Hakaneimi, Orinet Trading (not sure of the name) in Leppavaara keskus where u get all Indian grocery and veg..
They are typically not Indian shops...but u get what you want...
Cheers!

Re: indian grocery stores in helsinki?
I would advise Indian Market, behind kauppa halli hakaniemi. It is next to Etola Shop. The shop serves mostly for vegetarians, and thus no smell of fishes or meats. The salespersons are very friendly and shop is very clean compared to other similar shops in the area.

I would first check Vii voan(also next to hak. halli) they are a bit more generic asian store, but they tend to be the cheapest for most things.
At the very least they have most of the curry powders and masala spices

And one can get a lot of Indian stuff from Amazon's UK - at about HALF the FI price - with delivery cost included. And a lot wider variety. And quality is fine - eg Patak. Only thing is you have to take in packs of 6 but that's not really a problem for one with friends, etc.
