The places are called "löytöeläinkoti" or "löytöeläintalo". Here are the löytöeläinkoti-places of southern Finland: http://www.etsijakoirat.info/index.php?pid=18

Many people also go to Tallinn to get a dog.

Just remember the puppy will come a big dog, and it is not a toy you can abandon when you don't want to play with it no more. The reason is that the majority of the dogs in the löytöeläinkoti is a lot of 1-2 year old dogs who are not so "cute puppies" any more. And untrained as well.

dont worry hank! i have plenty of experience with dogs. i only wanted a puppy because they are easier to train than older dogs but if i find a slightly older dog ill take him too just the same. im not too picky.

Theres 'older puppies' usually that a family will need ti give away "due to allergy" you find adverts here and there. Usually a good place is to look at the different newsgroup/bb for dogs or certain if you are looking for a specific.

It seems that there are more abandoned dogs in Estonia --> wider choice.

But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.

Nah, they do everything for you. they have some gorgeous puppies right now... I think that the adoption fee was around 150 euro.

HTH...

Hi all,

rokingit: Why exactly are older dogs difficult to train? Can I beg to differ?

Here is another link, closer to home:

Kind regards.

One place to find a dog in helsinki is Hesy (helsingin eläinsuojelu yhdistys).
They really look to who they give their dog`s.. But estonia is good choise too, even so most of the dogs from there have been in so band homes that they cabe really crazy.. or scared, so they really need exsierienced owner.

Not only Estonia, but also in Viipuri, Russia. They seem to have a lot of dogs there, puppies as well as older dogs. I myself am going to rescue one or two of them once we move next month. And I believe it's also a bit cheaper than to get from Estonia, although you do need to take the dog to the vet immediately upon arrival in Finland.

It breaks my heart to read some of the things these poor dogs have gone through...

Here's a site for the one in Russia, although it's in Finnish..
