Looking for a tailor

Postby neil » Wed May 28, 2003 9:04 am

Hi,

Can anyone give me the contact details of a good tailor? I need to have my suit (*cough*) adjusted

Thanks,

Neil.

In London probably. - the emphasis was on good?

Unless it is a Savile Row, do you know what a tailor costs in F... - nevermind. Yellow pages = vaatturi, vaatturiliike, räätäli etc... that says miesten puku. Cheaper ones cut the costs by sending it to Thailand or Tallinn... Go to the pharmacy to get samarin for heartburn before you ask for a quote.

...jebuz, *tailor*... next he'll be asking for rolls-royce service... - just lay off the caviar and champagne diet for a while - caviar's got too many calories...

And yes, I have my own sowing machine  and a couple suits from sales ... next IEASF meeting I think I must dress up... actually my club jacket was in need of sewing up... thanks for reminding.

Like this one Hank ..even the great Hank make typing spelling mistakes...
 "my club jacket was in need of sowing up" :) Yes it is proably gone green and needs sowing!
Sowing = planting in the ground ..e.g "He sowed grass seed."
Think the correct spelling for using needle is "sewing!"
Finnish does not have the monopoly on gramatical tricks!
But Neil ..Finnish tailor!!! real one cost an arm and a leg...I suggest you take a trip to Myyrmäki..second floor tucked around the corner away from the main shops and opposite a shop called Valokaupa..it takes a bit of finding but there..is a small tailor shop run by a Thai Lady..Marjo has used her for hems adjustments and repairs. Prices are sensible but she takes a few days..If you call me I can give you better instructions on finding her or you could explore.

Neil,

Like Hank said - Savile Row.

Nah, seriously. There's a place called Pinstripe just up the road from Simones. They stock Italian and British material. Walk up the road towards and turn right as if you're going to Tavastia. You'll see the shop before you get there.

There also a tailors on Mannerheimintie just opposite Opera (bar), and another one just up the side street from the Finland Tourist Information (not the Helsinki tourist info place) centre on Bulevardi.

Neil,

There's a tailor who is pretty resonable across from the river market area in Salo that I use. She's quick and cheap compared to the quotes I have gotten from other places to include Helsinki.

Ahhh, now I remember why I ought not write before my morning coffee.

Yeah, that Myyrmanni one would probably be the price-concious option. (I thought it was ladies only - need to go up there to the back alleys to buy some buttons and some cloth color from Sinoperi as well...) And you know the way there, just meet Peter in the pub and you'll have a local guide. The "guild shops" would be the arm&leg variety. There is a few tucked-in shops that have been popping up, but they are listed in the phone book sometimes by just a few rows.

OK. I am going to toddle up to see our Thai friend in Myyrmanni tomorrow provided I am not too hungover in the morning as our company summer bash is tonight. Peter, I will call you tomorrow when I have failed to locate her

May be down town in the morning but I will be in the area early PM 13.00/15.00 then I have to take Kotipomo well away from the area before the Vantaa vandals (me/HankSara etc)start their Saturday evening partying at 18.00 ish
To locate the lady enter from the railway station area and go up the first escalator..at the top turn left which seems to head away from the main shops..follow the walkway around past a bank on your right and a Lamp shop on your left her shop is on the right..dont forget shops close early Saturday..sorry not sure about her closing time could be as early as 16.00..but everything closes at 18.00. .nothing to do with the vandal's party they always close at 18.00 on Saturdays.

Well, I can get my ass to Myyrmanni as well in the morning, so gives me a ring and I'll hop on the bus - or if you're driving come pick me up. I think I know what place Pete is talking about. I need to go there and get some sowing stuff anyways...
