looking for Ryijy kit for gift
Hi, I am looking to purchase a Ryjiy kit as a gift for my mother, anyone know where I can purchase one?
These are the best, not sure if they are available on-line though:

Käsityönystävät is good, but Helmi Vuorelma has a wider selection, and also a little more traditional designs:

They are really lovely.
I have never tried to make one... how long does it take?
eg this one:

I cannot see which one you mean penelope, just a blank page opens. How long depends on how you make it, with a needle or looms. And of course the design matters, too. I think needle is slower, but I cannor vouch for it. My mother made one with this huge looming tgingy that filled a whole room. And all I remember that it took "all winter".
you can find some here http://www.margaretha.net/butik/default.asp?
Not only is there no God, try getting a plumber on a Sunday!
It was called liljat. Very pretty. My MIL has a room-sized loom thingy... maybe if I buy the kit she will make it for me . I have never made a "rug" (rjijiyijij thing) in my life but it sounds like a relaxing pastime.... listen to music, box of chocolates etc etc and something nice to hang on the takkahuone wall.
True, Liljat is beautiful. There are many that I liked, for example the very first one Aamu, Huurre, and also the very traditional looking Helga (the blue one).
Maybe your mother-in-law teaches YOU to make it with looms. There are looms in Leppävaara´s kudonta-asema. And I suppose there are also other "loom-centers" in Espoo. I just remember that my mother was like in a frenzy, she really liked doing it. Later she made a smaller one with a needle. For that she invented the design herself.
Anne, those are not ryijys, ryijy is different. You can read about ryijys for example here:
