Ya, you have to go to a 2-year Paramedic course at a local college (Polytechincal)to become a Paramedic here in Ontario, but 4 years is a little long !
Would Ontario take guy who knows absolutely nothing and turn him into paramedic in 2 years or is this course for those with already existing medical background?

In Finland you are pretty much, to my knowledge, trained from point of no knowledge to paramedic.

Or, it could be that local paramedics are expected to perform wider amount of services than in Ontario. I know they were able to do at least rudimentary EKG or whatever that heart thingy is.
Ya, it's 2 years..regardless if you have previous medical knowledge or not...

Some levels of Paramedic can administer drugs in Ontario...

Well, in Finland theres about 10 different education backgrounds that can work as an ambulance driver. Basically the "old system" had your "firefighter-ambulance" and then a "hospital assistant-ambulance" and then your nurses etc. These days there is the EMT polytechnic course. So like in Canada theres your pall-bearers and then theres the guys who do a bit more specialist stuff. What "counts" is not as much the education but the experience, there is a standard test the EMT personnell must take every... 2-3 years or so to "keep up with the joneses" that then ranks them to different categorys. So like in a police car, theres someone who can read, someone who can write, and one who knows the way back to the station ;)
