Internship in Oulu

Hi there, I am Gunjan currently pursuing an undergraduate course in Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur India. I will be coming to the University of Oulu as a summer intern (for a period of three months). What is the average living cost in Oulu. And how is the city ? Also, what is the average summer temperature in Oulu and do I need to carry warm clothes with me.

Oulu is a nice quiet city that come to life during the summer. It can be pleasantly warn during the summer (which is strictly june,july and august...before or after these months it is winter) averaging at about 20 degrees C but there can be some rainy days ( but since I moved here from scotland to me they are just little showers)

For accomodation contact http://www.psoas.fi/en/ they do the student housing in Oulu and are cheaper than most places. If you are here for the summer i would suggest getting a bike. There are a number of second hand stores that sell old bikes in not bad condition for about 50 euros and you can sell it when you leave. Buses are expensive (2.80euros a trip) and there are more cycle route than there are roads here so it really is the beat option.

There is a growing Indian comunity in Oulu, they have their own google group http://groups.google.com/group/findians/browse_thread/thread/c5dbfaf7c9c53b75 If you wan to look into that. I think the regularly meet for lunches.

Notice though that you may not be eligible for the subsidised student lunches (which might not even be available throughout the summer), so prepare for higher costs for lunches. An average price for a lunch at a "non-student" restaurant here is 7 - 10 EUR/meal.
