Dont assume dude , that you already know everything ..you just come off looking like an ass.

You said, not directly but you said. and respect, you need to earn it, cant be done online. you said that you will be here yelling for benefits. Benefith of doubt is for rich people. i cannot afford it.
And yout bitbull, thats one goner if i really kick.
I do have training against mad dogs, theyre dead in 30secs, yes 30secs. Try to bite me and i show whats biting. Your bitbull wont have a change. Yes i fought against "suursnautseri" what is a BIG dog. huge dog if i can say but they werent match on humans.
Your pitbull will be dead in 30secs. it can bite me (if i let it come near enough) but dead will be more near and clear. like i fear a dog, never. i just kill one who seems hostile.

You don't need to say it. Many people read between the lines. Or they try to and fill in the blanks with there own perception.
Finland has free education and cheap healthcare. If you come and going to use them, your intentions might be pure, but people fill in the blanks in the obvious way. If you use the system and contribute, people will respect you. If you only use the system people will think what onkko is saying.

None of this friendly, smiling support to your face...then the knife in the back when you turn away.

Just this week I had one of these sad experiences...it's a long story, but I would have felt better with a blunt direct approach, rather than being left feeling I've been somewhat "betrayed"...:)

I think bluntness and directness is a nice Finnish characteristic that should be encouraged....otherwise we'll all end up behaving like the English...

I think there is a big difference between telling someone how it is and being a rude obnoxious idiot. I'm not surprised you have had a bad experience, I’m sure you have had many with people as you come across a being a right total prick! Now how’s that for bluntness? You were obviously dragged up during your childhood like many others. I suppose you could blame your ancestors?

Onkko - when he said respect, he was referring to common courtesy and quite frankly he is right. Your respons was rude and discourteous.

And as for comments on the KKK and black people needing more help than white people - dude you are talking complete and utter ignorant !"#¤%.

I am all for being realistic and honest with people who are asking about how to get a residence permit, what the job situation is, language...all the usual (sorry darkrat) questions that those of us who have been members of this forum for a while have seen a billion times - but there is being honest and being downright discourteous. I will be the first one to tell anyone even THINKING of coming to Finland to REAAAAAALLLLY examine their priorities and honestly take a look as to if they can survive in a new culture and adapt. Adapt being the key word (the language is frakin' hard, the job situation depends on the language in most cases, the cost of living is HELLA high, taxes just about can make even the strongest of constitutions come close to crumbling, and the weather is CRAP for 6-7 months a year)....but honesty and bluntness doesn't have to be rude.

So Dark - if you think you can adapt and have a solid chance of making a go of it here then I say have at it.

I am with 'Travmies' and 'SGaudreau' on this one.I really don't see the the point in just upsetting people and get their backs up? Your unfounded and uneducated wise cracks are just evidence of a someone that' s lonely and needs attention....still manners and common courtesy cost nothing Onkko. How old are you Onkko?

You have obviously never travelled and lived in another country long enough to realise the stresses of working and living in a different cultural environment. Telling people that they are not welcome based on their disabilities, the colour of their skin or other sad pathetic such reason's is not the purpose of such a forum surely ? Why are you here? I mean what are you really bring to this forum?

I have noticed the only support you seem to be getting is from young uneducated males from other countries...I don't see so many Finn's supporting your racist views! Its such a shame that you could be some peoples first impression of Finland that come to the forum. That is the big shame about you being here!

Kind regards,

Roo

Well, sad to say this happens quite alot, just a while ago a woman was asking as few questions and all she got was rude, discourteous replies, and she never came back in as she felt insulted. Some people come in here it seems to attack people and vent their hatreds. It will also keep on happening when you get others applauding their actions like they are some kind of heroes.

Many finns tone down their opinions if they even express them, but it doesn't change their opinion. I would say that Finland is fairly racist country, but the racism is well hidden. Or not so well... ask what southeastern finns like about russians.

In my opinion Onkko's writings give a good picture of what "common man" thinks. Man who normally would not say those things to foreigner (unless really drunk) but would say to friend or to work mate. This is not a travel forum which tries to get people to travel Finland and because of that I would say that this forum _needs_ people like Hank and Onkko who paint the worst case scenarios and break the bubbles. Of course one can do it more or less bluntly, but I would guess that Onkko's apparent bluntness or harshness (racism?) is more because of his English skills, not because of his abnormal views.

And back to the topic: I would guess that easiest way to get residence permit is indeed marriage, but please do put a job you have lined up as a argument to your RP application too ;)

a job and marriage are two different boxes though. one can apply with the merit of one or the other, but then you get the chance of confusing the bureaucrat chocking in their pencil as there is someting too much or missing.

ah, but the underlying problem here is the natives don't give a rats ass of what some foreigners think is better. they think giving an answer is already such an ordeal its reserved to special occasions... like in the example of answering a job application letter, sending a letter back only if the person is invited for an interview, and who cares then of the other applicants.

is it not according to the principles of the humane society not to transplant such alien species to an environment they cannot cope with?
