If anyone knows hotels or motels in Helsinki that cost around $40 per night, please let me know. Thanks.

HA!  Good Luck!

My parents were checking out prices of hotels in the area, I believe $74/night was the cheapest they found, and that was in April.

If you want me to give you the names, let me know - I'll dig them out of my inbox.

I think even hostels here are over $40 a night

I had a look at Hotel Cumulus (which has hotels at various sites in the city) and the cost for those is silly.

Bear in mind that everything in Finland is expensive.

The cheapest Hotel I know of in Helsinki area is the Privatel or is it Privotel in Leipavara..it is signposted off ring one near the Shell bensin station.
It used to be about 300 fim. 50-55 E.

The Cumulus near the train station is OK on weekends: 77euros for 'off peak' time. During the week it's about 127euros, I think.

To quote TP: You could even swing a cat in the room, but only if it didn't mind a few nasty cracks about the head...

Yeah, they're more like an apartments hotel for longer term acommodation. Connections are good - leppävaara train station is a short walk.
Cheers, Hank W.

My family came over to visit in february and used this hotel. And it was excellent for the price, not one complaint from my mum and two sisters (and thats saying something  )

I think Dusty Bin reccomended this place for me from the old site.

We should contact the hotel, say we recommend them to all our members, and ask for 5% discount on referrals from us.

Good for them, good for us.

Cheers

Its something to do with a nearby school. (Haaga I think) so im guessing its aimed at students families and the like. Its in Sornainen (pasila end) and on a tram route to the city centre 7A/7B

Marttahotelli

Post by Zoe » Fri May 16, 2003 2:41 pm

Marttahotelli is an excellent place for any and all parents to stay at. You may know the Martta's, they are a women's organisations dedicated to finding out nifty new ways to do household tasks and promoting good food etc.
Anyway, the Marttahotelli is VERY clean, the food is good and it's well placed in the centre and is good value for money.

More info:

Another good place is Anna Hotelli on Annankatu... although the rooms on with windows towards the road are a bit noisy.

Although the tram ticketing system was overhauled last yet, I still see people using those 10 trip/strip punchcards. Of course single tickets can still be used or alternatively, sending an SMS (with the contents A641) to number 16353 will return an SMS ticket that's valid for an hour to your mobile phone.

Neil.

PS Friends of ours stayed in the AVA a few weeks back and they said it was good as well.
