I'm sad and lonely in Porvoo
I'm sad and lonely in Porvoo
Maybe not the best way to start... but what the hell. I'm a Scottish guy in my late 20s, married to a Finn, and have lived in Helsinki for the last four years (and Tampere before that). I moved to Porvoo at the start of the summer, and live quite near the river, but unfortunately I work from home and all of my prior friends are in Helsinki!
Basically, I'd like to start being a little more social in Porvoo. I've been in Finland for over five years and speak reasonable Finnish, if necessary, and I'm a member of Porvoon Wiking (kayak club). I'm pretty easy going and like to spend time relaxing - my favourite pubs are Paahtimo and Street Bar - but I'm also happy to join people's hobbies (cycling is out now it's started snowing, but walking is always nice, and I'm open to new ideas: I don't even know what there is to do here!).
Right, that's the boring life story bit done. If you're interested in meeting a random stranger from "the internet" for a quick pint and to make a new friend, let me know!

You could do the Finnish thing and check out some books from the library.
Socialism has never managed to create anything beyond corpses, poverty and oppression.
Re: I'm sad and lonely in Porvoo
Doesn't quite address the issue, although I am a member of the local library - I just want some people I can go to the pub with, I don't want to turn into one of those sad old farts who sit by themselves at the end of the bar and drink their pints of IV beer and then stagger home again, perkeleing all the way

Hi I am buying a house in porvoo in the newyear.... so i will be more then happy to share a pint with you then so you could fill me in on the local area ect even if you are a scott ha ha
Re: I'm sad and lonely in Porvoo
Righto, give out your phone number/email address/future house address and I'll be happy to meet you - even if I'm a Scot (what the heck is that supposed to mean!?). But seriously, if you're moving here, let's keep things "safe" and "anonymous", we can meet in a pub or something - I'm sure I can show you some of the best pubs in Porvoo, if not all of them, because out of a choice of about four, it's hard to go wrong

Re: I'm sad and lonely in Porvoo
Thanks for that, I had already found them and will be attending their get-together tomorrow night - but glad to see people being helpful! Now all I have to do is find somebody to go to the gym with, because I'm starting to get out of shape but don't do very well with the whole self-motivation thing...kalmisto wrote:You could go to Finn-Guild get-togethers in Porvoo.

You are welcome !
You could also leave a message on this Porvoo forum :

First you click on "Aloita uusi keskustelu" ( Start a new discussion ) and then go on. Registration is not necessary. You just need a nickname ( nimimerkki ) and "filecore" would of course be fine ( if it does not happen to be somebody´s registered member name on Suomi24, which I think is very unlikely. ) And it is of course all right to write in English. If you get into trouble with that forum and need some more translation help just ask !

You really are a complete tosser, aren't you? If you've got nothing constructive to say then shut the f**k up.fonejacker wrote: go back to Scotland. bin the finn
Filecore, I hope you get things sorted there. Maybe take up a hobby where you will get to meet new people. I moved to a smaller town a couple of years ago. I don't really have any hobbies as such myself but my kids have a lot and I've got to meet parents of other kids that get on well with and meet up for a drink from time to time.
And don't listen to fonetosser above.

I'm just wondering whats there to whine about, the bloke is young, married, has a life.
I'm hitting 40, don't even seen a skirt in a year or two and the only club I visit is one selling highly expensive drinks

Oh, a troll. How nice. Every BBS should have one. At the moment I'm saying that Finland Forum is a crap hole with idiots like fonejacker; what's the point of your ranting? Did you really have such a poor experience in Finland? Since you speak in past tense, I'll assume you're no longer here (if indeed you've ever been). Then again, with grammar and spelling that poor, I can't be sure if you intended to talk in past tense. Perhaps you're just a teenager trying to stir things up, or maybe you're just a retarded penguin tapping wildly at the keyboard. Either way, you're boring, and I see no point in interacting with you any further.fonejacker wrote: ..hell go home in the end!.
one day he will say..finland was a crap hole with idiots like deman.

you know Porvoo isn't the worst of Nowheremäkis out there... they have some really drab places out there the blokes are measuring rope as we speak...
if I had to move someplace though it'd be Tampere or maybe Bridgetown

Heh, I know - I've stayed with a friend up near Kokkola, that was grim.Pursuivant wrote:you know Porvoo isn't the worst of Nowheremäkis out there... they have some really drab places out there the blokes are measuring rope as we speak...
Tampere's a nice town. It's cozy, it has all the facilities and shops of Helsinki (more or less) without losing that small town charm. It's probably the best-sized town in Finland. I used to live in Lapinniemi and then out in Ankkuri. There's a great little pub just off Tammelan tori (Tammelan Puisto tie) called Pikilinna...Pursuivant wrote:if I had to move someplace though it'd be Tampere or maybe Bridgetown
