Kadonneesta jotakin tietäviä pyydetään ottamaan yhteyttä poliisiin.
Must I use ottamaan here or can I also put ottaa?
Third infinitive?
Re: Third infinitive?
"Ottaa" in this context would be the "helsinkian" way of talking.garoowood wrote:Kadonneesta jotakin tietäviä pyydetään ottamaan yhteyttä poliisiin.

It's the same as when you ask someone if they know how to play chess. "Osaatko pelata shakkia?" would be the correct way while "Osaaks pelaa shakkii?" would be the slang version.

This way of speaking sounds actually really, really weird and annoying to me.Timbeh wrote:"Osaaks pelaa shakkii?"

Modern-day Helsinki/Espoo/Vantaa (youth?) slang. I haven’t really heard it elsewhere but perhaps it spills to nearby places like Kerava, too? At least to some extent?Timbeh wrote:This way of speaking sounds actually really, really weird and annoying to me. :x I've never understood how this kind of speaking has managed to become so common.
