Africans WERE sold into slavery by their own people - and it's still going on today, in Ghana for example, it's quite popular to sell your son to fishermen, the little kids are good at dis-entangling the nets. As for your "friends" - well, they don't have to have anything to do with me. But people like me, who are realists, exist. In Finland and everywhere else. Racial integration and love, peace and harmony between the people of the world is a fantastic idea, it really is. But the fact is that it just hasn't worked. Not historically, not recently. Take a look at the former Yugoslavia, the only country to escape war, get out the Federation intact, and go on to establish a "normal" country was Slovenia. Best performing economy of the 1st group of EU accession countries, better than Czech Republic which was held as the shining star. Why? They got out peacefully because they had no ethnic minorities. They were all Slovene. No significan Serb or Bosnian population. Croatia in contrast had a large Serb population in Eastern Slavonia and the Knijn region, and they did not want to leave Yugoslavia = major, major war. Horrifying acts of cruelty and unspeakable loss of human life.

Does it mean we should stop trying? No. But, to get back to Finalnd (as this is FF!), it seems to be trying to take a pragmatic approach - don't open the floodgates, try (!!) to integrate those already here, see how it goes. I reckon that is sensible. But then again, I'm just a facist. Right?

Well, Sean, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness is a delightful concept, but usually the domain of the rich. Yes, those other Africans who moved to South Africa had to be servants and labourers, but then again, they had to EAT. Of course, you probably think they should have stayed in miserable camps in Zimbabwe etc. existing on a few charity handouts. As far as I know, starving, wretched folk don't worry about the message of either the American or French revolutions all that much.

It's been a long time since I've heard someone justifying Apartheid and slavery. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. It's reminiscent of the old Mussolini adage about him being a horrible fascist dictator, but hell, we can forgive him because he made the trains run on time. Referencing Wikipedia "ad nauseum" to place slavery and other crimes against humanity in a historical or current context does not exonerate Europe's role in past atrocities.
