Why is it so much cheaper for food from the supermarket in Turku than food from a supermarket in Helsinki? They both have a port. It's not like the food is hard to transport. We just pay a premium to live in Helsinki? (don't even have to mention the rent _

On a side note, what is the cheapest market to buy meat? Just usual things, like beef, pork, etc.
I found only that the hakaniemi markets had cheap meat, or cheap if it comes with bones etc .

Shrimp in LIDL... meat you can get packaged in the big supermarkets, but you need to run after the "tarjous".

The Hakaniemi Asian markets have much, much cheaper and better shrimp than anywhere (including Lidl).

Personally a very important criterion is the distance from where I live. Even though I can walk to the market I use, I wouldn't choose something along the route from work (which I drive) unless there was quite a hefty price difference. Practicality has its value too.

I agree. Our village shop closed a while back. Apparently it will re-open next month. Great - it will then only be 9km to a shop, rather than 27km at the moment. I wonder whether enough people will support it this time around. Yes, things are always going to be more expensive in a little local village shop compared to city supermarkets, but it is a useful facility that people should be prepared to pay for. Perhaps having been without a local shop will have made people realise that.

Inner city = central regions of a city.

However Helsinki is too small a city to have one. There as London and Manchester in the UK have inner city regions.
