I was critising your first post...not your second posts...

EP wrote:I just don´t like "facts" like this "tammilehto´s" one: "Finland is the second most obese country in the world". That is total crap.

I agree...but then it's equally as bad to put up facts that are now 7/8 years old.

It's child abuse and the parents should be fined/jailed...or shot...that would be funny.

It’s hard to say what is the exact reason for K.F.C. not having a presence in Finland but I don’t think health-consciousness has anything to do with it. Fast food, in general, is seen as unhealthy in Finland, just like in most countries, but kebab/pizza places, local grills, burger joints etc. are numerous and all over the country. We could do with some more variety but the volume is there and they’re certainly not shunned by the locals.

It could be just a scale of economy thing. A country of five million, plus some, with a relatively large and sparsely populated land area, can only support so many fast food franchises. As for synergy within the EEC/EU economic zone (centralized purchases, transport, etc.), Finland is essentially an island, as you can see by examining the map (see here for population density as well.)

Yes - Finland does not rank 2nd in obesity according to stats have now seen.

eg -- http://books.google.com/books?id=1ift90 ... ty&f=false

But there was some kind of publicity a couple of years ago how 'fat' Finland had been becoming. Maybe it was rate of change, etc. In any case - even from straight- obesity measurements - Finland has nothing to really be proud of in this regard (eating habits).

You obviously don´t read womens/health magazines. That publicity is in every magazine year after year, has been as long as I remember.

Finland has nothing to really be proud of in this regard (eating habits).

There is something. In northern Karelia people used to die like flies of cardiovascular diseases. In 1970´s they started a 20+ year long project and the numbers dropped quite dramatically:

"Ennen Pohjois-Karjala-projektia maakunnassa oli työikäisillä miehillä vuosittain reilusti yli 200 ja naisilla yli 40 sydänkuolemaa. Vuonna 2006 vastaavat luvut olivat 44 ja 5."
(Before the project over 200 men and over 40 women per year died of heart attack. 2006 the numbers were 44 and 5.)

True...And very quick to critises other countries about their health.

It's always amazed me how the USA is light years ahead regarding dietary information and general health and fitness knowledge....yet a large % of the population still suffer from obesity and obesity related health problems. Poorly educated population and a dodgy food industry has a lot to do with it IMO....(not to say the food industry in Europe is that much better).

And to add, Cosmopolitan has to follow the original brand instructions, and they have a sex article in every magazine. Check women´s magazines that target women who are twice that age.
