CITIZENSHIP (NATUR) WAITING TIME

Hello,
I have applied for citizenship (for naturalization) in November 2008. When should I expect to get the decision? I suppose my case is a "clear" one.

During 2009, in Migri's page, they used to post at the beginning of *every month, for which previous year's month's applications they were handling.
Eg: In October 2009 --> they were handling September 2008 applications, in November 2009 --> they were handling October 2008 applications. It seemed to trail by 13 months, however until December 2009, they were still handling October 2008 applications as indicated in their web page.

Now, It seems in January 2010, they didn't post anything at all
Instead it just says "citizenship time are hard to estimate" in their web page, and they don't give any reason at all for why they haven't posted the application que times. I checked USA and CAnada immigration web pages, it seems a citizenship application is finalized in 5 months. Why so long wait here

Any idea, what should be the expected time?

Specifically, the statement mentions:
The concentration on declarations will naturally affect the queue of citizenship applications during the spring (spring 2010).

That is a case of the content writer taking the best case and universalizing it. (Which is what we generally do in the US, especially when we compare ourselves to others: compare our best, or even mythical, performance to other countries' average or worst performances.)

Citizenship in the US takes anywhere from 6 months to several years, depending on what fires the current administration is trying to put out at any given time. There will be a news story on how the green card queue has turned several years long, so they shift resources to the green card queue at the expense of everything else. Some other year it'll be the citizenship queue or some other queue. I'm sure that five months is the best statistical average they've ever produced for any modern measurement period and so they put that on the website.

It seems they are still starting with October 2008 applications and now they're going to devote all resources to clear up the declerations during the Spring so it looks like the waiting time for applications could go up to 2 years in the queue add to that the processing time.

Hello! I was asking these question too but hey welcome to Finland! Let me remind you that Finnish officials are very hard working people(!). At summers there are only 2-3 guys handling the citizenship application. They loooooooove vacations! They loooooooooooooooooooooveeee makkara, mökki, kossu and stuff. Their best excuse is "we are now proceeding former Finn declaration yadda yadda. Yeah right

Dude, this is Finland. Even the water is pouring slower, but not kossu! In the end, a friend of mine got the citizensip in 15 months (clear case).

MOST APPLICATIONS TAKE AT LEAST A YEAR. SOME TAKE MANY YEARS IF YOUR DOCUMENTS ARE NOT ALL IN ORDER.

16 MONTHS ISN'T THAT LONG FOR A CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION.

THIS IS CITIZENSHIP NOT A RESIDENCY PERMIT. IT TAKES MUCH LONGER.

Well there is the citizenship declaration, that's a process that can take as little as two months for some groups of applicants. Maybe he has seen those numbers on the Migri site. But anyway, that's a different thing from getting citizenship by applying for it (like most people have to do).

No he applyed for it like I did but 15 monthes later than me everything is THE SAME !

My application was in police about 5 monthes ! he lives in Helsinki that is the only difference !

My decision took around 6 months but on the other hand, I had my all papers with me since my day 1 in Finland. The lady was surprised to see the papers arranged in categories with alphabetical order. Well, I just told her that I work with data.

A good number of applications submitted in 2011 were processed in 6 months which was consistent with what migri declared. Regarding older applications, then you should look at the queue overview. It's possible that there's something not fitting quite well with your application and it's not as precise as you thought.

Those are refugee and alien passport applications. Precise ones were processed way earlier than that!

Hello all can anyone make me clear between 'alien passport' and 'national passport' thanks ! I am planning to apply for cittizenship.I need to know more about this to safe from negative decision. I have been living under visa A-status for 4 yrs. i have yki result ,3,3,3,3. I am not sure if i am eligible for Finn citizenship! I have a RP sticker in my country's passport as well. I am NON-EU people.

To apply for citizenship you need to have lived here 5 years on A or P. An alien passport is issued by Finnish authorities to those who cant get a passport from their country (national passport). The alien passport is merely a travel document and does not entitle the holder to any travel privileges of a Finnish citizen. It must contain a valid residence permit.
