Hi, will there be anything opened on easter Sunday in Helsinki as we are sating in a budget hotel near the train station and will need to find somewhere for breakfast. Also on a separate issue, are there any Roman Catholic churches in Finland or are they all Lutheran?
Omena Hotel? The one with no frills, card key, no services?
Hotel breakfasts in Finland are usually (always, I would say) buffet style and pleniful, and will take you well through the day till dinner time. You just walk into any nearby hotel´s breakfast room, tell that you are not a guest and pay your breakfast. That is totally OK.
Thank you, that is really great. Yes we are staying in omenahotels , it sounds like a really good concept, do you have a particular hotel in mind for us to go to? we have three children with us and they like to eat!
There are many hotels nearby for breakfast. Right around the square in front of the station plus plenty more if you cross "the big street" (Mannerheimintie). I have not eaten there so I cannot recommend one over the others. But there is always lots to eat. Anyway, hotel breakfasts are always wasted on me because a cup of coffee is enough for me, but my husband manages to waste at least an hour every morning.
If I remember right those hotel breakfasts for non-guests are not cheap, but they are well worth it if you are a breakfast person. But if you are just a "cup of coffee and maybe a little roll or something" person, they are a waste of money. In that case put the breakfast people to the breakfast buffet and others to a nearby bar for a cup of coffee.
Wait a moment! I remembered Omena Hotel´s address wrong! It is not next to the railway station. In fact there are two, one on Lönnrotinkatu, another one in Eerikinkatu, both on the other side of Mannerheimintie from railway station. Anyway, plenty of other hotels nearby.
Thanks for all your tips. I was talking to Father Merino who advised about a mass in St Henriks and he also told me that although there is not a church in Kuopio, Mass is celebrated there once a month. Thanks again
