OK cod, thanks. 5 years ago I also took the courses from Helsingin seudun kesäliopisto (by then there was 8 levels, had 7 of them). Regularly reading and writing a bit of finnish (still not able to get by at work though), now I would like to know roughly what my level is.

Congrats!! ....and picking up on the tone of some of the posts above...not following directions? Are you sure you are ready to be Finnish??Cod wrote:...I passed.
It's a bit of scam - considering I answered half of the speaking section wrong (ie, I didn't realise that we were supposed to follow some kind of direction when answering the questions...I just rambled aimlessly on my own.)
....and I suppose other than having to get over hurdles for admission/citizenship, etc requirements, in the end only you can finally decide just how good your languages skills are....and what you may want to do about it...Exam technique was really important...ie it's quantity not quality; answer all the questions - most of the marks are attained by just saying something, even if it's not right.
However, I'm a little disappointed, since it was a very hard exam but easy to get a pass - but still I'm nowhere near able to get by day-to-day at work.
Onwards to a higher level exam I guess..level 5-6. Maybe by the end of that hard-graft there'll be a sea-change in my fluency.
Re: yki testi-keskitaso
hey guys,
We english speakers have never tested our skills on TOFEL or GMAT, Finnish Testing centers have adopted the same format, in fact the soft ware company used is American and The localization was done in Birmingham, The actual project was launched back in 1999. I did YKI test two years ago, but i never felt any use of it, yeah if i am interested in Finnish Citizenship or Police job or some thing similar. The actual you learn by conversation, material are almost similar, at the end what i collect material was from local library, my test practice was just listening and nothing else. I listened conversations on many topics, it improved my vocabulary. I am speaker of 6 languages, have worked for Brit Council and other prestigious institutions, and almost every person who i met who was bilingual agreed that hearing sense is the ultimate to sharpen your learning skills. In IGCSE we have four skills of language when we learn fresh other than our mother tongue english, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Listening is top scorer than speaking and rest follow.
Best material is the not that what ABUYAMIN Is offering, in my opinion it is just good marketing skills of his that he is offering heart stricken lads some of hope.
Guys just stick with one thing, listening, guess what i did 8 months of courses, at the end i ended up sleeping with two of my single teachers and passed my YKI test, their contribution was not more than moaning well during the night but few tips afterwards while smoking helped me alot.

Provisions covering language skills required to acquire Finnish citizenship are laid down in the Nationality Act (359/2003).
Acquisition of Finnish citizenship requires at least satisfactory oral and written skills in the Finnish or Swedish language. The easiest way to demonstrate such skills is to complete a general language proficiency test to attain the National Certificate of Language Proficiency at intermediate level. This means that you have to have at least a skill level three on one of the following subtest combinations:
Speaking (3) and writing (3)
OR
Listening comprehension (3) and writing (3)
OR
Reading comprehension (3) and speaking (3)
Notice that you must attend the entire test to have a certificate on your language proficiency and that the test is always performed during one day. Nevertheless, you can prove that you have the required combination with more than one certificate (certificates issued after 1 January 2012).
