Resident Permit Application

Hello Everyone,

This is in regard to my Resident Permit Application.

I was placed on reserve place by a UAS and I was confirmed the study place only on 25 July 2011.

I applied for Resident Permit on 28 July at Embassy of Finland in Nepal. My studies start on 29 Aug.

In June 2011, I had been to Italy for around 10 days, my schengen visa was approved that time. But, I understand this time it's not schengen visa but Resident Permit. I'm really worried, if I would get the permit before my studies begin.

What do you think guys would I get the Permit before 29? And, considering I had schengen visa in June, will that help Immigration in approving my permit in anyway?

a Schengen visa and a residence permit for study are two totally different things.
For your rp you need to show :
- acceptance by a uni
- money (€6000,-/year)
- a medical insurance.
If any of these fails, it is no rp.
The fact that you got a Schengen visa means that there are probably no major objections on other grounds.

Thank you for your reply. And,yes, I too agree with you...and I do have everything submitted to prove those.

Maybe this can help you (Although each country and each case are different)
I applied for my RP on 29.06.2011 and received it on 05.08.2011

Well, 'm really worried. Coz, my studies start on 29 August, n i really do not want to miss this opportunity.....as u know...i got the chance after such a hardship..from among the reserve places.

Also,

Adnan, when do you think ur application reached Migri, when u applied at your embassy on 29th?

Mine, MIGRI says it reached there on 03 August...

Don't know the chances though....

It usually takes between 1-3 weeks for the application to reach Migri, depending on how many application your embassy is receiving and how long it takes to mail the applications from abroad to Finland.
But you really shouldn't be worried about that, your biggest concern is the queue at Migir, as there are thousands of applications waiting to be processed, especially this time of the year.
I called on 1st of August and asked about my application, they told me it's in the queue waiting to be processed. Then received an email on the 5th that my application was accepted.

the lady at migri told me that she recieved it on 3rd aug. But it's on queue n waiting for processing..

cant' say if the schengen visa can speed the process up (you can ask the migri or the embassy) but know for sure that u sent ur application kinda late since it takes about 60 days during busy months to get the rp.

ur not the only one waiting in the queue.

Anyways there probably is a chance to get the rp after the 29th.

No one can be sure of it but there is a chance.

Ask the university as well if its alright to come late and how you can cope up. thats important as well.

Well, I'm not been able to understand, why does the migri statistics shows 'the average processing time for students' is 25 / 26 / 27 in previous years. I mean, everywhere in Internet, I get to see students writing that they got their RP in 37-60 days. So, how come the average could be 25-27 days?

Don't know why but I feel I gonna get my RP this week...just an instinct... well..fingers crossed!!!

Because every student dont write in internet, be assured that they do have right statistics since they dont have reason to lie because too long queues do mean more money to them to hire more people.
Take account those with easy cases and remember how average works. Easy cases dont write in internet, they are just happy.

Because they won't be moaning about the slowness, if they got the permit before they even started to worry about it? 9 out of ten gets it in 20 days, one in 60 days -> average = 24 days.

Yes, I do agree.

As per the average calculation rule, if there are people who get RP in more than 35 days, there must be majority of people getting RP in less than 21 days...so that the averages comes to be around 25.

Well, I'm starting to believe I might fall under these 'lucky' set of people who might get RP in less than 21 days.

Do you guys think like RP Processing depends hugely on nationality too? I mean, with so many fake cases discovered in previous years, they might surely be giving more time for Nigerian Applicants. What do you have to say about an applicant from 'Nepal'?

Well, I think there could be another angle where we can see this.

Maximum numbers of applicant ( more than 60% of total applicants) are from Russia and China, who could have been these 'lucky' set of people whom immigration office gives either higher prority or 'less strict' processing measures. Coz, these are developed countries whose nationals are considered to have secured income source. This could also have made the 'average processing time' statistics look better.

I dont know about china but with russia finnish border guard and immigration do have lot of co-operation so even fishy cases can probably be processed fast. I wouldnt say that china or russia is out of "doubt" but yes less doubt than nepal and definetily less than nigeria. I would say most of fast lane are from USA, canada, australia and similar where i think "look at paper, ah canada, stamp" can happen and bring average down.
