Like cycling? Like camping? Then you should love the idea of the sub-24!
The idea is to head out on a friday evening with a few supplies, a tent and a sleeping bag. We cycle Nuuksio-way for no longer than 25-30 kms and then find a spot to set up camp. Then we grill a few makkara, have a couple of beers, chat, go to bed, and then head back home after breakfast so that everyone still has their week-end ahead of them!
My mate Lee and I tried this out a couple of times last autumn and absolutely loved it! So we decided to set up a blog to explain the idea and organise the outings. On there you will see that the first sub-24 of the year will be taking place on Friday 6th May.
The idea is not to show off and compete on the bikes. We will base our speed on the slowest rider and want to help one another. So don't be scared of feeling left out because your bike is not worth a fortune or if you don't know how to fix a puncture. Everyone is welcome!
Reminder: If you want to enjoy the improving weather conditions at the end of the week, we are off to our first sub-24 of the year on Friday. We'll be cycling to Piirtimäki to find a camp site, so only 6,5 kms from Bemböle to make it accessible to most people before we head to Nuuksio itself next month, a little further.
If you intend to come, please leave us a comment on this blog post. We've also made a list to help you figure out what to pack.
First Friday of the month means Sub-24! We're off to Nuuksio itself this time on Friday 3rd June. So if you like the idea of cycling in a very social manner (NOT competitive, we always base our speed on the slowest rider) and camping on a warm Finnish summer evening (yes yes, they are expecting warmer weather next week!) by a lake, why not take the plunge and join us! As usual, you can find all the details on the blog.
The second Sub-24 of 2011 was excellent! Four of us rode our bikes to Nuuksio (including two new converts) and other friends met us there. For a full report and some pictures, go and check the blog!
Remember, everyone is welcome to these. We always base our speed on the slowest rider and this last Sub-24 featured someone who hadn't ridden more than 5 kms since the age of 12, and who was riding her mum's old rusty mountain bike! Elitist we are not...
We do a Sub-24 the 1st Friday of every month during the summer, so the next one is July 1st. I'll be riding my own bike to Lapland then but Lee is in town so if you're up for it, why not drop us a note, either on here or on the blog.
Sub-24 is back! On the 5th of August, we'll pack our panniers and trailers and go camping for the night. Meeting point will be the usual Bemböle Shell station. Where are we heading? Why not have your input this time in the comments section of the blog?
Here we go again, after a real successful Sub 24 in August with 8 participants, we're going for our record on 2nd September. So if you like being outdoors, cycling and meeting people from all nationalities, ages and walks of life, take the plunge and join us!
The Sub24 season is coming to an end. For details of the end of year happenings, including the first ever Sub24 Pikkujoulu (open to everyone), visit the blog and if you want regular updates, why not "like" our Facebook page?
Just a reminder that we're heading to a Sub24 this Saturday. The weather's meant to be real nice (dare I say it) and our destination (Porkkala) is meant to be quite special.
Some of us will be taking their bike and stuff to Jorvas station and riding from there so it would be approximately 20 km to get to the camping site, which nearly anyone can manage (whether they realise it or not) so do come along! See previous post for link to the blog and details of departure times etc...
