home for the holidays

Postby Heefa » Wed Nov 23, 2011 11:59 pm

planning on going home to scotland for the new year and i'll have been here 6 months before i go, do i need to notify any of the authorities or KELA? also does this start my living here all over again because i'm registered as co-habiting. i'll only be gone a week.

this might sound like a stupid question but i just don't know >.<!

It wont change anything. You're only going for a week.

Better to ask than to be sorry...
As K said, it won't matter. Unless you are getting unemployment money from Kela. The premise behind that is that you should be available for work and if you are abroad, then you certainly aren't. Hasn't stopped Finns from being few weeks or even longer somewhere warmer and cheaper place...

Regarding unemployment benefits the limit seems to be 6 days/ year and you should inform them in advance. Of course if, nobody notices...

In Aust at least, if you are receiving a benefit the moment your passport is scanned on a flight that is leaving the country you are within 24 hours dropped from your benefit. On top of that you receive a 'sanction' and are not allowed to receive another benefit for a set amount of time.

This is all if you don't notify them. If you notify that you are leaving for even a small amount of time they'll drop you off the benefit. To which you will have to apply all over again (that's your punishment) but you wont get the sanction.
