language proficiency test for Undergraduate degree

Postby SergioGon » Wed Mar 14, 2012 3:37 am

Hello,

I am Sergio from Spain and this is my first post so, nice to met you! I was reading this foro and I found important information.

I apologise for my english, is not good enought, but I will try to explain myself....

I am planning to go to Finland to study a bachelor degree and I just know spanish and a few english, so the best could be to study a international degree in english, but there is not this possibility. I asked to some universities and all of them told me that I need to pass a language test in finnish. I have been reading information here and the idea that I got is that I have to get a intermidiate level of finnish, getting at least a 3 in that test.

I was thinking in to go 1 year before for to study finnish, I am not a great student, but I am not uncapable ..... I was thinking in to study like 3 hours per day and the rest of the time practice with people..... maybe thats the idea in the beginning.... after spend time reading magazines and listening tv also.....

So my questions...

If there is someone here that did this test... how long did you study finnish for to pass that test? Do you think that it is possible to get a intermediate level in 1 year living in the country?....

Any information or help is welcome....

Thanks!!

Intermediate Finnish in one year... how would I say it nicely... maybe you should start to look at other options? I'm not saying it isn't doable, but Finnish isn't certainly going to be the easiest language to take on. Especially if you should be able to use it to study in university, where the materials might be in other language and results should be in Finnish.

Hello Upphew and thanks for your answer,

I think like you that to learn finnish in one year is complicate, but... the only important for me is to pass the entre exam, after my idea is to start with half of the subjects and go more slowly with the degree in the first years, also I am going to choose the easiest subjects in the beginning that maybe finnish is not to important..... And in this second year I will keep with finnish classes of course.

So, do you know about how is the entrance exam??, thinking just in the entrance exam do you think that its is possible?...

You didn't specify what you would like to study, so I took the first result from google... pharmacy: http://www.helsinki.fi/farmasia/opiskel ... okeita.htm
Open the "Farmasian valintakoe" pdf and look for yourself. 652 applied, 156 got accepted.

wait a minute. i thought u r going to study bachelor degree in english. anyhow. i think u should take up finnish if u decide to come here. and i think 3 hours per day. and want to be in Finnish level 3 in 1year. hrrrrmmmmm....difficult call. but it is not possible. u should get more hours per day for study finnish. and there r quite many finnish volunteer groups for helping u study finnish.

if u study Bachelor degree in finnish , u will have more majors to choose. but if u r going to study in english. dont really have lots choices. but i guess every major u pick. will include study finnish.
