Immigration Decision

Hi

I am a Non EU citizen married to a Finnish citizen. We applied in Malmi approximately a year ago for the first RP. I know, I should have done it beforre I came here, but life doesnt go as planned everytime.
Anyway, the past 11 or so months I have spent time enquiring about the progress and it was in que, however in Feb i was asked to go and submit my finger prints at the police station and also write a letter denoting what happens to us if the RP is denied. Well I did as soon as I could. Then there was waiting again till last month when i was told that there are just a few forms left before mine, and we wouldnt be needing an interview as we would get a direct decision.

Is the Interview a standard procedure? And not having one means a negative decision? Please enlighten me as the information that I have been getting from other immigrants is confusing.

No, Inteview is not part of 'standard' process. Infact there is no any standard process, it can be very smooth or very complicated. They ask for interview if they suspect something.

Thanks a lot mate, I am kind of getting tired of getting conflicting answers, and to be honest their customer service section is not upto the mark, not only are they not helpfull but sometimes borderline rude. Thanks again

It's possibly because all the visitors there aren't quite as well-mannered as you. Take it as a positive thing

I do take it in a positive way

, i have met some of those visitors myself, anyway, waiting does wear a person down.

Nor is it standard process to hop in and apply for RP

Another thread to point when eager immigrant ponders where to apply?

Actually when the wrote the current Aliens Act, that was the new 'standard' procedure they had in mind for spouses of Finnish citizens. It just does not work that well in practice. (Not that the alternative works so smoothly necessarily either ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60969 ))

I had got the impression, that things had got faster in Malmi during the last couple of years. I wonder if this is just this case, or have things gone lot slower again.

No, The police is spending more time spot checking immigrants, so expect couple of more months for residence permit to be processed.

what does "spot checking" immigrants mean, I know the definition, but are they carrying out random check?? i didnt understand. if you may clarify.

They randomly check passport in airport , especially near arrival gates from Non EU flights . it happend to me in Feb2011

You only have an interview if they don't believe your story or if they don't trust you.

I didn´t have to have an interview, most people don't. Only those they don´t trust.
So no, it is not standard procedure to have an interview at all.

My application only took about 3 months, the fact that yours has taken what, over a year means that there has been 'issues' with your application.

Thanks for the reply, but the thought i am pondering over is why havent they tried to clarify any doubts or issues they have or had about my applications with us , why were we given the usual " your application is in que" and " we do not have enough manpower" alibis?

Go to work, get an application from the pile, look at it: easy ones you act on, hard ones you put under the pile... or at least that is how it seems to go at migri/police.
