Holidays pay

Postby georgeSP » Thu May 03, 2012 10:33 am

Hi!

I'm having the next situation:
I took 2 weeks off for Easter which were not part of my Talviloma, just days off (henkilökohtainen, for which I don't get any salary). During that period there are 2 official holiday days: Pitkäperjantai and Pääsiäispäivä. Is it possible that I don't get paid for those 2 days if I was off.

Hope somebody has an answer for this.
Kiitos.

I don't a scripture to quote here, but while I understand it may sound unfair, I think it probably is so.

Let's put this way: should you get paid for those days if you had been away the whole month of April?

While you have a nominal hourly salary, typically it does not really work precisely that way, like one's monthly salary does not vary based on number of days and public holidays in a month.

First of all, thanks for your reply.

I forgot to mention that I get paid per hours. Meaning that if one day I don't work, I get 0€ for that day = day off.
I've been told about the next situation, according to the law, which happens very often:
somebody is enjoying summer holidays (kesäloma ex. 24 working days). Juhannus is within that period. This day doesn't take 1 day from your holidays. That means that you get paid for this extra holiday day: 24 days + Juhannus. Otherwise you are losing one holiday day pay.

So, here is my question:
Is the situation the same if I'm just off, instead of on official (paid) holidays?

Hope it's clear enough.

Well, it seems that common sense has taken part in this issue and... I finally got paid!
Just a "small" misunderstanding of the employer with the law.
