Live crayfish

Post by vaxtang » Sat Jan 12, 2013 11:49 pm

Hi,

Anyone knows where can I find live crayfishes in Helsinki (in worst case Espoo or Vantaa ) ? I looked to Hakaniemi's market, but they don't have.

Kiitos

Not sure of crayfish but a relative of mine claimed there’s a fish tank full of live lobsters in the Ruoholahti K-Citymarket, which was a first for her.

Never heard of live crayfish in shops.
It is a seasonal delicacy and outside the season there is no demand I guess.

And the season lasts for about three weeks at the end of July, beginning of August.
Eating crayfish in January would be like eating brussels sprouts in the middle of summer - weird.

There are live crayfish in shops (well, at least in the Iso Omena Citymarket) during the crayfish season. But yeah, this is totally the wrong season for that.

Because tomatoes grow in greenhouses, but crayfish are wild.

Some are, some are not. But you have to live somewhere else than in Helsinki to get them out of season: http://personal.inet.fi/yritys/ojalanrapu/esittely.html
